Live  streaming is on top of the digital trends in the fashion world and the Big Four is continuing to prove it. This new digital craze has started last autumn while showing S / S 2010 collections. Remember my post about You Tube channels as a marketing tool? Yes, Dolce & Gabbana were supposed to be pioneers in this field with their “Pre Show Diaries”. But the real succes had Alexander McQueen’s Plato’s Atlantis show live stream , that Lady Gaga made a mess of… anyway. According to WWD, Michael Kors brand began live streaming its show two years ago and saw a 111 percent increase in page views from the spring 2009 live stream to the fall 2009 one. There was another 81 percent jump from the fall 2009 show to the spring 2010 event.

There is a choice of different platforms. Some brands use their own sites, as did Dior Homme, Prada or Emporio Armani. Some uses their Facebook pages, for example Lacoste or Louis Vuitton. Others collaborate with media sites like Vogue.com or GQ.com. Alexander Wang and Rodarte shows were broadcasted by ShowStudio. The British Fashion Council for example offered London designers the opportunity to stream their shows live on the organization’s Web site with the help of Streaming Tank.

Who was the best this week? Of course, Burberry with it’s 3D streaming! It was undoubtedly the  most widely distributed fashion show a luxury brand has ever staged, potentially reaching an audience of more than 100 million users, according to Burberry CEO Angela Ahrendts (BoF).

More brands than ever are embracing live streaming this season for two reasons, said to WWD James Gardner, founder and chief executive officer of CreateThe Group, a social-media focused agency. “First of all, the cost of streaming and bandwidth has come down significantly. And consumers’ appetite seems unquenchable for fashion.”

Definitely there are a lot of benefits in live-streaming. This is the great communication tool. Consumers now can see clothes in motion, feel the atmosphere of the show, hear the music and even pre-order some pieces from the new collections. Proenza Schouler, for example, introduced e-commerce on the site, so online shoppers could preorder the fall handbags straight from the runway for 24 hours after the show. If you are a fashion-blogger which name isn’t included in fashion shows’ guestlists, anyway you can write a valuable review using your critical talent. In any case you’ll get a better angle from your laptop’s screen than from the seat behind Tavi.

Russian fashion duo ALOE presented their new collection S/S 10 named Still Life on the Sebastian Fearless Hair Fashion Show in Moscow. ALOE is a collaboration of two designers Galya Solodovnikova, Central St Martins College graduate, and Inna Sevastiyanova, Moscow State Textile University graduate. Beautiful, food-inspired fashion show turned into a real theatrical performance.

Inspiration

Inspiration for the new collection and fashion show came from the rituals of eating. Some suits’ elements are folded like a table cloth, models wear fruit-like accessories and you can see dinner plates on the runway. Cezanne’s Still Life gave its name to the collection.

Fashion show

Still Life show started with laying out plates on the runway. Models walked down this catwalk-table wearing fancy hairdos and architectural clothes from the new collection. As the show reached its climax, the models climbed up rotating plates while a model in a beautiful dress-transformer made an appearence. Perfect direction, choreography and exciting visuals turned the runway show into a modern art performance.

Вдохновением для создания коллекции послужили т.н. бытовые ритуалы, касаемые искусства употребления пищи. В одежде коллекции присутствуют элементы, напоминающие причудливо сложенные салфетки, а аксессуары выполнены в виде фруктов. Формы костюмов созданы путем манипуляций дизайнеров с бумагой, но воплощенные в ткани, они становятся округлыми и придают одежде струящийся эффект.

Показ

Показ начался с сервировки подиума гигантскими тарелками. Презентуя очередной наряд, модели занимали точные места в сложной композиции картины застолья. Отлаженная режиссура и сложенная хореография вкупе с ярким визуальным рядом превратили показ в настоящий художественный перформанс, кульминацией которого стало появление модели в платье-трансформере.

Yesterday Russian designer Max Chernitsov presented his new S/S 10 menswear collection named “Demons”. The show held in Moscow, at the new Artplay Design Centre – a huge exhibition complex in an old factory building. As the hero of the collection was a revolutionary, so the place was some kind of underground hangout with rough walls and concrete floor.

Вчера в Дизайн-центре Artplay на Яузе состоялся показ Макса Черницова “Бесы”. Вдохновением для создания коллекции послужили образы первых русских революционеров, как правило выходцев из интеллигентной среды, где было принято не только рассуждать на философские темы, но и хорошо одеваться. Свое название коллекция получила от романа Достоевского “Бесы”.

Images of Russian first revolutionists who generally had hight education background and were always good-looking holding frightful thoughts in their heads. Name of the collection was taken from Dostoevsky’s novel “Demons”.

Fashion Show

Personally I didn’t expect to meet so many stylish (but not polite) people there. Local celebrities like Sergey Lazarev, Oskar Kouchera, Marc Tishman were walking among crowd, giving interviews to the TV reporters. Others were jostling in long queues to get their free whisky-cola.  I’ve seen a group of young people in fancy masks. It reminded me “the literary quadrille” from Dostoevsky’s novel. Meanwhile, the show has started. Models wrapped in black and red fabrics appeared on the scene, holding dinamite in their hands. What? You meshed up terrorists and revolutionists, didn’t you? From that moment a sign “yat’” that was pictures everywhere as a logo has started to remind me something else.

In general, there were nothing revolutionary in this collection from the fashion point of view, but it was nice-looking every day wear clothing. There were some sporty stuff, some elegant pieces, underwear, of course. In breif, all that a stylish modern men needs.

Здание завода “Манометр”, в котором находится центр Artplay, было превращено в подпольное место встреч, где рождаются заговоры. По первому этажу гуляли местные знаменитости, позируя журналистам, на втором – разливали виски. Бесплатный виски, в прочем, оказался популярней знаменитостей. Среди толпы бродили действительно стильные личности, что для RFW является редкостью. Была и группа людей в маскарадных масках, которые напомнили мне, скорее “литературную кадриль” из романа.

Шоу началось с того, что на подиум напустили огромное количество дыма, из-за чего первые три модели не было видно совсем. Меня несколько смутило появление на подиуме моделей, завернутых во что-то наподобие паранжи с динамитом в руках. Все-таки “революция” и “терроризм” – разные понятия. С этого момента черная буква “ять” стала мне напоминать совсем не кириллический знак.

Сама коллекция состояла из предметов повседневного мужского гардероба, от олимпийки до смокинга, ну, и конечно же, нижнего белья. Особенно меня порадовал мужчина с густой бородой и в очках, представлявший плавки, из которых торчала шашка динамита. Вообще, динамит присутствовал во всех моделях, то в виде пояса, то вместо бутоньерки. Вспомнив историю с ружьем и театром, вполне логично было бы предположить, что шоу закончится каким-то живописным взрывом. Однако шоу закончилось более дружелюбно, выступлением украинской группы “Сансей”, которая, к слову, озвучивала и сам показ.

Завершает нашу четверку лучших парижских показов шоу от Viktor & Rolf. Это дефиле стало одним из самых обсуждаемых и цитируемых в интернете. Казалось бы, пресыщенную модную публику уже ничем не удивишь. Но дуэту это удалось. Они выпустили на подиум моделей в креативных нарядах, не подчиняющихся законам гравитации. Вдохновением для коллекции, по словам дизайнеров, послужил финансовый кризис. “Все урезают бюджеты, вот и мы решили урезать бальные платья”, – пошутил Рольф Сноерен.

Don’t take it seriously, it’s only my version illustrated above. The official one seems to be less credible but much funnier: “With the credit crunch and everybody cutting back, we decided to cut tulle ball gowns”.

Fashion Show

Viktor & Rolf  have one of the most entertaining and thought-provoking shows of the Paris Fashion Week. They set up a gigantic glittering globe on the one side of the runway and pregnant singer Róisín Murphy, who performed live on a pedestal on the other. The most memorable pieces were dresses and ball gowns of thickly packed layers of tulle were cut and sliced. Although some of fashion critics said there was nothing “ready-to-wear” in this collection and it shouldn’t be comercially successful, it was inspiring and absolutely unconventional show.

Несмотря на то, что многие модные критики сошлись во мнении, что коллекция не приспособлена для реальной жизни, она стала настоящим вдохновением и глотком свежего воздуха в душных помещениях Парижской Недели Моды.

Unexpected country-style solution from Chanel hit the runway on the PFW last day. Karl Lagerfeld managed to turn fashion show into spectacle with Lilly Allen live prformance and menage a trois at the end of the show.

Показ весенне-летней коллекции 2010 Chanel стал для всех сюрпризом. Сцена в Grand Palais на время превратилась в амбар со стогом сена посередине, откуда, через маленькую дверцу, появлялись модели. Дизайнера вдохновил деревенский период жизни Марии Антуанетты с одной стороны, с другой стороны он продолжил линию, начатую Коко Шанель – бегства от городской суеты. В завершении показа неожиданно прямо из под сцены поднялась платформа с музыкантами и Лили Эллен, которая живьем исполнила свою песню Not Fair. В показе также участвовал любимчик Карла Лагерфельда – Батист Джиабикони, который в обнимку с Ларой Стоун и Фреей Беха Ериксен изобразил сцену на троих. Показ подкупил зрителей веселым беззаботным настроением и еще раз доказал, что Карл Лагерфельд умеет превратить обычный показ в театральное представление.

Marie Antoinette’s country life. “I spent part of my childhood on a farm,” said Karl Lagerfeld  after the show.

“A huge barn had been conjured up in the center of the Grand Palais, and the models emerged from it, wheat ears clinging to their tousled blond Bardot beehives, straw stuck to their clothes, and a little smirk and stagger in their step as if just caught out at you-know-what. There was a surprise turn from Lily Allen, who rose out of the floor on a hoedown platform to belt out a saltily worded country number; and at the end, Freja Beha Erichsen, Lara Stone, and Lagerfeld’s constant companion, Baptiste Giabiconi, were literally rolling around in the hay together”, – Style.com reported.

The eye-catcher of John Galliano’s S/S 10 show were smoke filled bubbles pouring from the ceiling, but those bubbles took attention from the clothes and it was annoying with the photos where it’s impossible to appreciate the details properly. For the show – red laser and bubbles – great idea, for the fashion show – no. Anyway we put Galliano’s SS 10 among best shows because it was spectacular, well-done (in spite of 1 hour delay) and conceptual presentation.

Своей коллекцией Весна-Лето 2010 Джон Гальяно закрывал Парижскую неделю моды. Это феерическое шоу не оставило меня равнодушной, несмотря на все его недостатки. Во-первых, неудачно было выбрано место проведения – неуютный склад на окраине города, во вторых, шоу задержали более чем на 30 минут, и гостям пришлось ожидать снаружи, укрываясь от проливного дождя.

“It came from a research trip to L.A.,” Galliano said. “I went around the old houses of Hollywood and imagined how stars like Tallulah Bankhead, Lillian Gish, and Mary Pickford lived.”

Fashion Show

The show opened with a dialogue from the 1950′s Sunset Boulevard. Laser-lit runway, upon which floating bubbles descended and then evaporated into vapor created a dreamy parallel world, a show poignantly evoking the era when the heroines of silent movies were facing their career demise.

Фишкой показа стали наполненные дымом пузыри, которые лопаясь, окутывали туманом моделей. Подиум пронизывали лучи красного лазера, все помещение было затемнено. Очень зрелищно и креативно для шоу, но все это вместе мешало сосредоточится на одежде, да и на фото пузыри вышли лучше, чем модели. В лучах красного лазера, окутанные дымом модели, представляли дьявольский комбэк голливудских героинь. И на этот раз Гальяно не изменил себе.

When the Big Four is over it’s time to start our Best Fashion Shows review. I’m not going to talk about new collections, it’s others fashion blogs’ job. I consider fashion show from the dramatic point of view, how was it done, what was the idea, the production, etc.
And number one in our ‘wow-list’ is Alexander McQueen with his Plato’s Atlantis Fashion Show.

После того, как закончились основные четыре недели моды, самое время проанализировать все, что было показано и выявить лучшие показы. Нет-нет, я не буду обсуждать коллекции, это прерогатива других блогов. Я предлагаю взглянуть на показы с точки зрения их драматургии, с точки зрения концепций и постановки.

Inspiration

“When Charles Darwin wrote ‘The Origin of Species”, no one could have known that the ice cap would melt, that the waters would rise and that life on Earth would have to evolve in order to live beneath the sea once more or perish,” McQueen wrote in his show notes. The relationship between humans and the earth and the melting polar ice caps being a prediction of what is to come in the future. Transmutation, Nebula, Medusa – here are the key words.

Fashion Show

A Nick Knight video of Raquel Zimmermann in the sand surrounded by snakes played in the background as an opening to the show. Later Raquel morphed into an arm-waving sea creature. The huge LED screens made you feel as though you were inside a giant space ship watching an Alien army march around in parade. Two cameras, each mounted on a robotic arm that glided back and forth on the runway, moved over the audience, replacing the video of Raquel on the screen and alongside these two roving beasts, the women that McQueen envisioned as evolved sea creatures also slowly glided about (glide being the operative word as the shoes were killer with their 10 inch curved heels and hoof-like front). It was a big-budget production, for sure.

The exclusive catwalk show was intended to be streamed live to an audience of six million, but the Showstudio.com website, on which it was due to be shown, crashed thanks to none other than Lady GaGa.

This online broadcast has been tailor-made to be an exclusive and unmissable event in itself, capturing the essence of McQueen’s new collection. In was one of the most important part in McQueen’s communication campaign. But a few minutes before the show, Lady GaGA had tweeted that her new single, Bad Romance, would be premiered at the show, citing the website as a source from which to hear it. So, as you can imagine countless Lady GaGa fans tuned into the fashion website, causing it to crash, which thereby meant that the world’s dedicated followers of fashion lost out on seeing the show.

Premiering a new release by Lady Gaga at the fashion show is the ultimate product placement. The public likes the use of celebrities and pop stars. They sell product. But in my opinion, this final song not just crushed the site but crushed the conception of the show, oversimplified it.

Вдохновленный произведениями Чарльза Дарвина и межзвездными пространствами, Маккуин превратил огромное помещение парижского спортивного комплекса в космический корабль. Представление началось с проекции Ракель Циммерман на громадном LED экране. Обнаженная модель извивалась, лежа в песке, окруженная змеями. Спустя какое-то время она сама превратилась во что-то наподобие медузы. В это время на подиум стали выходить модели в неземных нарядах из новой коллекции. Особое впечатление на публику произвели прически и обувь. Подиум был разделен двумя громадными камерами на три части. Пока модели вышагивали на 30-ти сантиметровых платформах, угрожающие установки скользили по рельсам, проецируя на экран то виды первых рядов, то самих моделей.
