<p>Tom Ford has made his directorial debut with a movie adaptation of Christopher Isherwood’s 1964 novel, A Single Man. Colin Firth stars as a gay college professor who struggles to find meaning in his life after the sudden death of his longtime partner. Julianne Moore costars as a lifelong friend of the professor’s. The movie premiered at the 66th Venice Film Festival this year and won its lead Colin Firth a best actor award while Ford himself captured the Queer Lion (a trophy awarded to the “Best Movie with GLBT Themes &amp; Queer Culture”). After Venice A Single Man moved to the Toronto International Film Festival and then &#8211; to the London Film Festival. The Weinstein Company has acquired US rights to A Single Man and will release the film in NY and LA before the first of the year to qualify for Academy Award (Oscar) consideration. <p>The story takes place in 1962 in Los Angeles. It starts with a fatal car crash in which Jim (Matthew Goode) is killed. George Falconer (Firth) learns about his lover&#8217;s death the next day when a relative phones, but he is warned not to attend the funeral of the man he lived with for 16 years. Broken-hearted and alone, he seeks comfort from his long-ago flame, now friend, Charley (Julianne Moore), who is obviously still in love with him. But George is too devastated to be interested in either sex, and even rebuffs the approach of a hot young hustler played by Jon Kortajarena, who is a true James Dean lookalike. He tries to avoid getting involved with his student Kenny (Nicholas Hoult of &#8220;About a Boy&#8221;), who is just discovering his sexual preferences and aggressively courts the older man. <p>Julianne Moore talks to <a href="http://www.graziadaily.co.uk/fashion/archive/2009/09/11/first-review-of-tom-ford-s--a-single-man-.htm" target="_blank">Grazia UK</a> in exclusive interview: &#8220;Tom sent me the script, and I thought Charlie was a really fun party girl, a faded party girl. He just put his whole heart and soul into making this movie. It’s not just a fashion project. Tom was very passionate about how things looked and how things should be. That’s exactly what you want from a director. Sometimes the production sets I turn up to look wrong, but you feel like Tom has considered everything down to the last detail. Tom’s a guy who looks at the whole picture.&#8221;</p>

It shows a different side of me — not the one that people see. I’m actually much more serious, romantic, existential. I didn’t want to be perceived as some fashion designer who’s come to Venice and decided to make a film. I’d like this to be the beginning of a parallel career alongside fashion. The process seems really natural to me, and I’d ideally like to make a film every three to four years. I love my day job, as well. It’s been great to bounce between the two&#8221;.</p>

<p>Однако художественный гений Тома Форда обеспечил фильму безупречное исполнение, в том числе визуальное. Колин Ферт уже получил приз за лучшую мужскую роль, а Том Форд &#8211; специальную награду Queer Lion за лучший фильм на гомосексуальную тематику. Вполне возможно также, что фильм будет в скором будущем наминирован на Оскар, а на большие экраны он выйдет уже в январе 2010-го года.</p>

<p>Talking about social media, YouTube channels is another effective but rarely used marketing tool. Ask Dolce &amp; Gabbana about it. D&amp;G brand was a pioneer in this field. Having registered their YouTube channel in 2006 they became the most viewed branded channel in the world in 2009. The broadcasting of “Pre Show Diaries” and fashion show live generated 16 million hits, according to a company memo.<!--:--><!--:ru--><img class="size-full wp-image-808    alignnone" title="it's just a picture :)" src="http://fashioncollector.net/wp-content/uploads/2009/10/dg-youtube.jpg" alt="it's just a picture :)" width="600" /></p>
<p>Dolce &amp; Gabbana заново открыли для себя маркетинговые возможности канала в YouTube. Публикуя за несколько дней до Миланской недели моды тизеры новых коллекций, они добились аудитории в 16 миллионов пользователей, став самым просматриваемым брендовым каналом мира.</p>

<p>Nielson Net Ratings reported in 2008 that YouTube has over 68 million unique visitors per month and has the 6th largest visitor audience in the U.S. (ahead of eBay, Amazon and Wikipedia). More than 2/3 of the U.S. population over the age of 25 has watched a YouTube video and 91 percent of users have purchased something online. YouTube represents a very powerful marketing channel and opportunity for exposure on the net. The majority of fashion brands have registered their YouTube channels in 2008 but only few of them really use it.</p>
<p>Luxury brands are feebly presented. Today their own YouTube channels have only D&amp;G, Ralph Lauren, YSL, Stella McCartney, Gucci, Hugo Boss, Burberry, Elie Saab and Louis Vuitton. Democratic brands presented by Victoria&#8217;s Secret, H&amp;M, Topshop, Mango, Baby Phat, American Apparel, Quiksilver, Lacoste and Bershka. And if D&amp;G has brought thier account to life right before Milan Fashion Week, Victoria&#8217;s Secret does it regularly. This is no surprise that VS surpasses D&amp;G in quantity of subscribers. And I don&#8217;t think it&#8217;s because of the quantity of semibare models.</p>
<p>Topshop and H&amp;M are also pretty industrious with rich and interesting content. The worst channel-holder is Lacoste with only one uploaded video about a year ago.</p>

<p>Фильм на 90 минут приоткрывает завесу тайны и рассказывает о том, что происходит в редакции самого влиятельного модного глянца во время подготовки сентябрьского номера. Как известно, в сентябре 2007-го года Vogue побил все рекорды, выпустив журнал объемом 840 страниц, 725 из которых – рекламные. Да, такое было возможно в те безоблачные докризисные времена.</p>
<p><!--:--><span id="more-3"></span><!--:ru-->Ни режиссер Эр Джи Катлер, ни сама Анна Винтур во время съемок фильма не могли предположить столь печального развития событий в экономике, однако выход фильма оказался весьма кстати. В то время, как дела у Condé Nast идут не очень гладко, фильм безусловно спровоцирует новую волну интереса к журналу. Бескомпромисность Винтур, вызывающая дрожь в коленках как у молодых дизайнеров, так и у ветеранов цеха, только упрочняет позиции Vogue как качественного и авторитетного издания.</p>
<p>У фильма практически нет бюджета на раскрутку, но начиная с весны,  &#8221;The September Issue&#8221; &#8211; главная тема светских разговоров, а пиратские копии легендарного номера до сих пор переходят из рук в руки. В понедельник, 24-го августа, в поддержку выхода фильма Анна Винтур участвовала в шоу &#8220;Late Show With David Letterman”. Многие благодаря шоу узнали, что Винтур умеет улыбаться и шутить. Оно и не удивительно, злые языки называют “The September Issue” лебединой песней Винтур, однако Condé Nast отрицает эти слухи.</p>
<p>Ну а те, кто уже видел фильм, утверждают, что главная его звезда &#8211; Грейс Коддингтон, креативный директор Vogue, с ее неподдельной страстью к моде, она то и дело вступает в конфликт с Винтур и ее коммерческим подходом к процессу. Собственно, на этом противостоянии и строится вся интрига фильма.</p>
